‘Cygnet’ was the 9th of the Enniskillen Yacht Clubs Fairies, being part of the 2nd batch of yachts that were delivered a year after the fleet’s first season. From 1907 onwards Cygnet was an active boat under the ownership of the Archdale and later Herbert families before becoming something of a part time boat, often dipping in and out of the race results throughout the years. The boat eventually became laid up and un-salvageable. The boat was taken by the Ternan brothers, George and Fred and completely rebuilt as new from the Keel up. This project was completed in 2010 in time for the Crom regatta. The name ‘Cygnet’ is that of a young Swan. This does not seem to have any relevancy to the mysticism of the Fairies like a number of the other EYC boats, but it does conform to the Avian names of ‘Tuftie’ and ‘Petrel’ that can be found in the fleet.
