Finvara was the 11th Fairy commiosned for the RNIYC in 1902. She was allocated the sail No.12 and has sailed form Cultra since her construction, 118 years ago. The name ‘Finvara’ comes from the mythical King of the western Daoine Sídhe, a race of supernatural entities like Fairies or Elves. The boat suffered damage and sank during a race involving a heavy gale in 1928. The yacht sank to the bottom but was later recovered once the weather had settled.
