‘Maeve’ was the 4th of the EYCs Fairies and was given the sail No.5. Originally named ‘Spook’ she was renamed sometime in the 1940s when her then owner Dr Horace T. Fleming took possession. ‘Maeve’ has sailed with her sisters continuously since her construction, often leading the fleet but most importantly lacking many of the decade long absences that plagued the rest of the Fairies. As a result of this, ‘Maeve’ is often thought to be a very special boat on Lough Erne and is quite well known around county Fermanagh. Present owner Mick Whaley carried out a thorough restoration and rebuild in the early 2000s and sails her to this day. Like her sister ‘Storm,’ she was for many years one of only two Fairies that managed to sail from Killadeas until recent efforts to get ‘Zephyr’ and ‘Petrel’ back into action.
