The North of Ireland Yacht club was created through the merger of the the Ulster Sailing Club and the Cultra Yacht Club in 1899. The Royal warrant was granted in 1902. This would be the same year that the club would procure a new fleet of yachts that would eventually become known to us as the ‘Fairies’. The club has been highly successful despite the many setback of the World Wars, Partition and ‘The Troubles.’ The entire fleet of surfing yachts continues to sail from Cultra to this day. Huge thanks to David Livingston, Robert Hume, David Carlisle and many other members of the RNIYC for their great photographs.
