Psyche (No.8, ex 9) RNIYC, ex EYC

‘Psyche’ was originally built with the second batch of yachts for the Enniskillen Yacht Club (EYC). She sailed with her sisters there from 1907 to 1911 before being sold to the Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club (RNIYC). She arrived during her Enniskillen years with the last 4 boats, namely; herself, ‘Cygnet’, ‘Snipe’ and ‘Fay’. She was allocated sail No.9 and this was changed to No.8 at the RNIYC. The No.9 position was briefly filled at the EYC by ‘Fay’ (not to be confused with the RNIYC boat of the same name) in the 1920s after ‘Petrel’ had taken ‘Fay’s’ original No.12. ‘Psyche’ comes from the Greek goddess of the same name and her stories in the likes of ‘Cupid and Psyche‘ and ‘Metamorphoses.’ She has been based at Cultra for over 110 years, besides an absence in the 1970s.
