Wraith, the Fairy that never was. When the North of Ireland Yacht Club, shortly afterwards receiving the Royal Warrant, and know from 1903 onwards at the Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club, asked its members if they wished to commission a new Fairy Class Yacht, deposits for sixteen yachts were collected from members, along with the allocation of names for the new boats. A ballot was drawn and Sail Number 16 was drawn against the name Wraith. From here the existence of Wraith comes to an end. It would appear that the owner never finished the payments for the yacht, beyond the initial deposit that all RNIYC members would have payed. The potential owner in question is recorded as; John Wilson, Jr. If an initial deposit was received it is entirely possible that a keel could have been made. This yacht was obviously never built, but the keel and any other material that was left over could have become the basis of the first EYC Fairies,’ 4 years later.
